Founder

A lifelong commitment to public service and the well-being of North Carolina citizens led Sonia Barnes to the formation of NCBWEN. A wife, mother, grandmother and First Lady, Sonia answered the God given call to act on behalf of African American women and communities statewide.

The mission and goals of the organization have been developed with deliberate focus toward providing a platform of networking, dialogue and avenues of resolution for problems that exist in black communities.

A tireless advocate, Sonia is excited that the dream is going forward to affect change and that other women have embraced the vision as active partners. Together they have vowed relentless action and assistance as the organization works to “Uplift Women” around the state of North Carolina and beyond.
